Thank you for your continued support and participation of the Verendrye Museum’s Backyard BBQ Competition fundraiser.  We are gearing up for the 6th Annual Cook-off on Friday and Saturday, August 12-13th, 2022 at Fischers Lilly Park with the Brisket distribution and Calcutta on Friday evening and then the fabulous tasting, sampling and meal on Saturday afternoon with Turkey Races and other fun-filled events for the family, contestants and others.

Your support is important in preserving the history of central South Dakota by being a Major or General Sponsor as well as participating in the BBQ Competition, possibly winning the competition too!

  • Major Sponsor is $500.
  • General Sponsor is $300.
  • BBQ Competitor Registration is $125—80% of the Registration fees will be paid back in prize money. * The Calcutta will be held Friday evening after the brisket distribution.

Sponsorships, businesses, teams, and names are included in the promotion of the event and used in all advertising as well as LIVE ads read onstage during the event.  We will hang your Banners or Logos upon request (just drop them off at the Ft. Pierre Depot) and provide a place for brochures, pamphlets, etc, in an effort to promote your investment.  A record number of 60+ competitors did the barbequing while over 400 people enjoyed the BBQ brisket tasting/sampling/meal.  This Annual Signature Fundraiser is critical to the Verendrye Museum organization in maintaining, operating and programming at all five of our facilities/sites.

Thank you for your consideration in adding the Verendrye Museum’s BBQ Backyard Competition sponsorship and/or competition to your 2022 calendar and annual advertising budget.  We will be providing additional information in the future but feel free to contact Committee Members Connie Carlisle, Deb Schiefelbein, Sandy Cronin, Darby Nutter, and Brian Scott, or email us at contact@verendryemuseum.com.

Central South Dakota communities and citizens are proud of the historical significance which is prevalent in the towns and counties with Fort Pierre/Pierre being known as a Showcase drawing tourists, families and businesses for visits.  This is truly the place supporting “History You Can Touch.”

We look forward to promoting your interest in 2022 and appreciate your support in as we take measures to preserve our rich history for generations to com – ‘History & Beef—it goes together!’
